The East London Guild of Needleworkers recently completed a white linen duvet set, the throw of which was hand-embroidered in shades of blue - Deerfield work.
Paddy Garrett was our project leader and she obtained Jacobean patterns from various books and magazines. The hand-embroidered panels for the throw were embroidered by the members, and Paddy finished off the set by embroidering the pillowslips.
Raffle tickets for this duvet set were sold by members throughout the year and raised R4,800 after expenses. The draw was done at Floradale, Beacon Bay, at Floradale's annual Christmas Art and Craft Fair. The members had decided that the proceeds would be divided and donated to St Bernard's Hospice and a charity nominated by the winner. The winner was Heather Garrett from Cape Town, and she asked that we donate the other half to East London Pet Pals.
